Hillsboro Youth Advisory Council Continues to Inspire

Tuesday, members of the Hillsboro Youth Advisory Council (YAC) gave a presentation at the Hillsboro Optimist Club weekly meeting. Their presentation focused on the great work that the YAC is doing for the year, and how they plan to grow next year.
The theme for the council this year was ‘Education, Environment, and Equality’. A goal that they worked towards through various service projects throughout the year such as fundraising for the local schools, volunteering at the Jackson Bottom Wetlands plant sale, and creating PSAs on cyberbullying and water conservation that can be found online.
The YAC also has yearly awards for active members and scholarships for seniors.

Youth Appreciation Day A Success

The 2013 Youth Appreciation Day program, Co-Chaired by Club Secretary Tammi Hilp and Club member Mike Chapman was a big success with over 50 guests in attendance.
Youth from four area middle schools were rewarded for their ‘all-around citizenship’. Nominations for the awards came from their teachers and principals. The program also contained a list of activities that the club does, but member Bill French explained our purpose well, “What do we do? Well, we bring out the best in kids.”
