Hillsboro Optimist Club honors Hillsboro police training division

The Hillsboro Optimist Club honored the Hillsboro Police Department's training team during a ceremony held Tuesday morning. 

During its "Respect for Law" week, the club each year honors police and strives to promote good citizenship among youth, said Lt. Mike Rouches,Hillsboro police spokesman. The training division, Rouches said, was recognized for its "thoughtful and comprehensive training in tactics, application of force and officer safety."

The division trains all Hillsboro police officers, Rouches said, and has trained officers from agencies around the region.  

Rouches said the club has continued to support police programs, such as the DARE program, and has had volunteers help with projects such as removing graffiti.
