2015-2016 Hillsboro Optimist Club Essay Contest
First conducted in 1928, this is the second most popular Optimist International Program, giving youth a chance to excel in public speaking, confidence building, and writing.
Topic: "Lead by Example: Reality or Fiction?"
- Write a 700-800 word essay on the topic provided.
- Open to Participants under the age of 19 that have not graduated from high school or the equivalent in the Hillsboro area.
- Applications will be accepted from now until January 1, 2016.
- Winners will read their speeches on February 22, 2016 at the Hillsboro Optimist Club.
- Prizes will be as follows:
- 1st Prize will be $500, with the chance to advance to a District Competition.
- 2nd Prize will be $300.
- 3rd Prize will be $200.
- 4th Prize will be $100
- 5th Prize will be $75
- 6th Prize will be $50
- The Hillsboro high school that sends the most contestants will earn $100 for their Grad Night, as well as a pizza party for the students that entered the contest.
