The past two weeks of guest speakers have opened the eyes of those in the
Optimist Club to the need for education in the Hillsboro area and those that provide
it. Last week, members of the Hillsboro School Board, Wayne Clift, and Maureen
Barnhardt spoke about the need to pass the upcoming school bond on the
November ballots.
The school bond would allocate $25 million over five years to local schools. $17
million will be used for upgrading computers, $4 million will be used for safety
upgrades, and $4 million will be used for building upgrades.
“We are working together in a marvelous way to do more with less for the last
five years,” said Clift on the state of the current district budget.
Yesterday, Sally Thornton, wife of club member Jack Thornton,
introduced us to the work of Allegro Music Together, a music learning program for
children 0-5 years in age.
Sally, teacher and Director at Allegro Music Together taught club
members about the organization and how vital music is to the lives of small
children. WIth wonderful information and interactive examples, Thornton brought
smiles to club members and encouraged them to bring family members to come
and learn the joys of music.
