The Iron Chefs Cater Cater the Middle School Teacher and Student Appreciation Event

Students from the Iron Chefs Class (Advanced Culinary Arts) at Liberty High catered the Hillsboro Optimist event. The 200 guest event challenged the students to create a delicious menu that could be served with quick efficiency. Preparations began months in advance with students testing recipes to find the ones that met the “Oh, my gosh that is delicious” standard, followed by portions counting and detailed preparation plans. The final menu included bruschetta with pesto aioli and fresh salsa, crudités with hollowed out cucumbers, ranch dressing and vegetable sticks, stuffed mushrooms, bacon wrapped jalapenos, brown sugar smokies, mint swirl cake and raspberry chocolate mousse cups.

This program is  directed by teacher Mary Masters.

Hillsboro Optimist Club’s Middle School Teacher and Student Appreciation Event Features a Wonderful Performance by the Hillsboro Community Youth Choir

The Choir draws singers from Hillsboro, Forest Grove, and Banks schools. It also draws from charter schools and the home schooled. The organization has three choirs - Prelude for grades 1-4, Premier for grades 5-8, and Encore for high school students.
HCYC has sung at The Venetian, City Hall, schools, churches and retirement homes.
An Encore choir performed at the Teacher and Student Appreciation event under the leadership of Cindy Uecker. The accompanist on the keyboard was Kayse Durgan.
The Club has a connection to this Choir though Optimist John Hortenstine (John is the HCYC treasurer and a great booster). Earlier this year, the Club was able to help the organization acquire the keyboard used at the concert.
