Helping Youth Take to the Skies

Helping Youth Take to the Skies

Barbara O'Hare
Speaking today on behalf of Airway Science for Kids, Barbara O'Hare joined the Hillsboro Optimist Club as guest speaker.

Airway Science for Kids is a non-profit youth program aimed at children ages 8-18 that focuses on math, science, and responsibility. Youth enrolled in the program meet for classes to learn the physics of aviation, the parts an airplane, how to build an airplane - all in a way that is easily accessible to the youth.

Other parts of the program, such as the "Teen Flight" component, allow youth to take a further step - and build an airplane. They are currently building their second airplane in a hangar at the Hillsboro Airport.

O'Hare expressed the need of not only volunteers for the project, but funding. If groups can sponsor one student, one class, one event, then more youth can be reached by the program.
